Humans tend to be empathetic towards embodied, responsive objects, objects that react to events. As robots are being trained to display reactions in conversations, I can imagine that the notion “robots are not humans” is progressively eroding. The technical and biological gap that separates robots from humans has already started to converge and as this convergence becomes more obvious on the surface, humans will become more inclined to accept robots playing certain social roles in society. Whether those roles would entail dynamic emotional labor or static manual labor, they will be there to take on labor that is negatively conducive to biological organisms humans.
